This week for Homelessness Week 2022, LEGO homes were placed on Parliament House steps in Melbourne to campaign for the needs of Victorian young people who don't have a stable home.
Hope Street has been declared a participating institution under the National Redress Scheme.
The National Redress Scheme commenced on 1 July 2018 in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Scheme:
Homelessness Week runs from 01 to 07 August 2022 and is coordinated by Homelessness Australia with the aim of raising awareness of people experiencing homelessness, the issues they face and the action need to achieve enduring solution. This year’s theme is ‘To end homelessness we need a plan’.
Hope Street have designed an innovative support response to youth homelessness solution that will offer not only a safe home but access to apprenticeships and job training, as well as access to mental health, alcohol and other drugs and wraparound community services.

FEATURED PILOT PROGRAM: Hope to Home in Whittlesea
Many young people face obstacles when trying to secure stable accommodation due to no rental history, lack of affordable housing, and no employment to sustain rental leases. The Hope to Home in Whittlesea pilot program will address these issues by:
- Facilitating the transition of up to 30 young people (and their children) from the Hope Street in Whittlesea program or Whittlesea Housing into 1 and 2 bedroom units
- Providing case management once they secure private rental of these units
- Helping these young people maintain their tenancy, employment, education and training, and community connections
- Engaging the support of community stakeholders including local businesses to address barriers contributing to youth homelessness
